A Braai is a BBQ and a Mielie is corn on the cob. This is a South African recipe sent in by @toughtash from the Robertsons Herbs and Spices Facebook Page.
Essentially it looks to be wrapping a mielie in Bacon and braaiing it.
Ok for those foreigners out there (most of you) - wrap some corn on the cob in Bacon and put it on the BBQ for a little while. Comes out super tasty - but then what wouldn't when it's been wrapped in Bacon!

Going through the archives I found this one, and realised there were a couple of others out there.
I wonder if it is the same Pig on the same beach?
Well turns out it just might be. There is a beach in the Bahama's called Pig Beach. Turns out a bunch of Pigs may have been dropped off by sailors many moons ago. They were hankering after some cooked Swine, so set the Pigs free on the island, planning to return to cook them. But they never returned.

Coppa di Testa

I recently started following a website about Cured Meats. It seems to be run by a chap in Atlanta, Georgia, and provides all the information someone will need to get going in the world of cured meats.
His latest blog describes how he obtained half a Pig, and then what he did with the Pigs head. Basically he made something called Coppa di Testa. I don't know what that is, but it seems to make use of the head and comes out as a kind of cold meat for sandwiches and the like. Looks good to me!

Detailed instructions on how to do this yourself are also included as well as some good pictures.

Definitely a blog worth following if you're wanting to learn more about the cured meats process.

The guys who brought us the 23 Karat Gold Bacon now have started a Kickstarter project to raise money to create Bacon playing cards!
The Baconery have started the project to create Bacon playing cards and a game called "Bakin' with Bacon".
If you don't know, Kickstarter is a crowd sourced fund raising site. So anyone can go and try raise money for their project by giving away first editions or early releases etc to the people who fund them.

So I noticed this on the web this morning. There is a company that seems to be a little miffed about something or other and have decided to take it out on their Muslim brothers. But only if they are trying to kill you in the name of a Jihad. If they're just trying to kill you cause they're bad people then this is not the product for you!

Basically they're coating their bullets in Pork infused paint. So they believe that if a fundamentalist Muslim is attacking you in the name of a Jihad, and you shoot them with your Jihawg Ammo, then they won't go to heaven with their 72 virgins, but instead straight to hell.
How much credibility there is in these claims, who knows. I'd have to actually read a religious book to tell you that - unless someone can tell me that themselves!

So there is this new video type site called Vine where people can upload 6 second video's. Not too sure what it's all about or why you need to watch (or share) 6 seconds of rubbish.
But anyway...this came to me...certainly a lot of mentions of Bacon in 6 seconds.

Don't let anyone ever tell you you've had too much Bacon. There is no place for such negativity in life!

Pigs stolen after Badplaas accident

Just read a story that is all too commonplace here in South Africa. After a lorry, carrying almost any cargo, is in an accident it seems that the local people around the area, especially if it is in a rural area, descend on the accident scene and start looting the goods.
All too often we see this with beer or fresh produce.

But this one was Pigs. A truck carrying 139 Pigs to the abattoir, to make some tasty Porky treats, overturned and the driver was serioulsy injured. The local NSPCA inspector was on teh scene and decided to euthanase 53 of the injured Pigs.

And then all chaos broke out "as if out of nowhere" the locals arrived and descended on the accident scene. Pigs were dragged off by the legs or just carried away.
As per usual in this country, the police stood by not wanting to get involved as it was not something they could control they said.

Sad times indeed. But at least these Pigs went to feed poor rural people in desperate need of more Bacon in the diet!
