La Bottega Restaurant in Cape Town will be having it's second annual BaconFest this Saturday 5th December! Last year, from all accounts, was a roaring success, not like the F@#$ show that was the Wembly Tap
So please get down to La Bottega Restaurant in Buchanan Square. Support this sort of thing so we get more of it!
They'll be having 2 sittings. One in the afternoon and one in the evening. 150 tickets for each.
9 different dishes ranging from Pork sliders, Bacon wrapped miellies, candied Bacon, Bacon popcorn and many others!
They also have a number of craft beers on tap, so get down there. Settle in. And enjoy a day of Swine and beer!
This sounds like the sort of place I could enjoy!

Bacon on Bree - Cape Town
I did a post back March about Bacon on Bree in Cape Town. But that was before they had a website.
Now they have a website and a little more information about themselves.
Looking at their menu, what I love about it is they know what they are. They are about Bacon. Everything has Bacon on it!
Too many South African restaurants think they know what they are, but still try and cater for everyone.
Go to a steak house and you can get fish and chips.
Go to a fish place and you can get ribs.
What's that all about? Know what you are. Do it well and stick with what you know.
Started by Richard Bosman and Justine Seymour in Bree Street in Cape Town, with the aim of being a day time eatery specializing in Bacon.

Bacon on Bree opens in Cape Town
A new Bacon themed restaurant is opening soon in Cape Town's Bree Street.
Aiming to be a regular eatery for patrons, and not a fancy special treat restaurant.
Serving Bacon sandwiches, or toasted cheese and Bacon.
I look forward to giving this a go the next time I'm in Cape Town.

Baconfest Cape Town
Baconfest Cape Town is being held on Saturday the 29th November 2014 at La Bottega Restaurant, Buchanan square 160 Sir Lowry Rd, Cape Town. The event is divided into two sittings, afternoon and evening, where you can pig out to your hearts content, on all dishes presented including 2 x 500ml Boston Lager Draught beer for the price of R250 a ticket from Webtickets.
Hopefully this will be better than the f*@k show organised in May at the Wembley Tap.
With the benefit of seeing how not to arrange a Bacon Fest I think this one could be the real deal!
Also the fact that they have limited numbers to 300 people over two seating sessions make a big difference. Sure it is limited, but it will make the experience that much better for the people who get a chance to go.
So if you are in Cape Town on the 29th November then make a plan and get to this place!
And let me know how it turns out!

Cape Town, Fish and Casino's - Sponsored post
The next time you're in Cape Town and have a hankering for some fish, the obvious place to go is the Cape Town Fish Market at the Grand West Casino. It is a vibrant, social restaurant with a fantastic Teppanyaki and Sushi bar.
They have some great weekly specials including half price Sushi on Tuesdays, and all you can eat Sushi Buffet on Thursdays!
At the Sushi Bar, tasty treats like California Rolls, Sashimi and fashion sandwiches roll past, on the first of its kind in South Africa, conveyor-belt.
The Cape Town Fish Market also has the option of purchasing lobster, muscles, prawns, oysters, and others, to be prepared for you in preferred portions to take home and cooked yourself.
Now if you happen to be at the Cape Town Fish Market at the Grand West Casino then you'll probably be needing somewhere to stay. This is where the Grand West comes into it's own. It is a full on entertainment complex including hotel! The complex includes more than 13 restaurants where you can get your fix of any other cuisine if fish is not what you're after. From Indian to Chinese, Steak Houses to Sea Food. The Grand West has them all!
The Grand West is the largest entertainment complex of its kind in South Africa. It offers around the clock entertainment in restaurants, bars, nightclubs and cinemas.
Or, not too far away there is also the Table Bay Hotel. The Table Bay Hotel is perfectly situated to take full advantage of Cape Town's most incredible sights and settings. Conveniently positioned against the stunning backdrop of the working harbour, Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, the Table Bay Hotel is in good proximity to the airport as well as Cape Town's best tourist attractions.

Bacon Fest Cape Town - a web review
I wasn't at Bacon Fest Cape Town on Friday night, so everything I have to say below is based on what I've read in comments on the Wembley Taps Facebook page.
First, I was very upset I would not be able to attend the Cape Town Bacon Fest. It was help at The Wembley Tap in Cape Town. All the hype on their Facebook page leading up to the event looked awesome!
Tickets sold out but possibly some available at the door.
Bacon beers that would be available.
Pictures of chocolate Bacon being made.
And then the reviews afterwards.
I was first made aware of something not being quite right when I saw a comment posted on the previous Bacon Fest Cape Town post. Someone posted, basically saying what a disapointment it was.
"This was the most disappointing thing ever!! For R150 you get a paper plate with little pork on, and one small bacon bear tasting!! There is nobody who explains to you how it works!! This is a rip off!!! The advert says you get 5 taster tickets and a pork plate!! I did not get what was promised to me!! "

Cape Town Bacon Fest!
A celebration of everything Pork!
This has to be the first Bacon Fest I've heard of in this country!
So it'll be full of hipsters drinking craft beer ironically. So what...there will be Bacon and all sorts of other great goodies. And craft beer. Can't go wrong there.
It looks like it is on the 30th May 2014 at the Wembley Tap Public House in Gardens (where ever that may be - I don't know Cape Town).
So get there and be Porky!

The Foodie gets bakery!
I'm not sure how I missed this as I get all the updates to TheFoodie's website, but thankfully Cheese pointed this out to me and it's certainly a place I'd like to visit the next time I'm in Cape Town.
From this post on this blog it says he's acquired the Jason Bakery and has renamed it David Bakery - I suspect some Tom Foolery here as it also sounds like he's just looking after the bakery for his mate while he's on holiday in Spain.
But I think I'd prefer for the Foodie to stay the owner if what he says is true -
"We’ve also streamlined the menu: every croissant comes with bacon in it! Actually, EVERYTHING comes with bacon! Even coffee comes with a piece of streaky bacon instead of a biscuit."
That does sound great doesn't it! EVERYTHING COMES WITH BACON!
So if you're in Cape Town - get there!

The Foodie's Favourite Breakfast Places
I follow The Foodie on Twitter and he recently posted and article to his website about his favourite breakfast places in Cape Town. It got me thinking...what are my favourite breakfast places around Durban. The only place I could think of was going to the Shongweni Market for a Saturday morning breakfast - the omelette is great, but I hear the falafel is really fantastic.
Take a look at his site and check out the article on breakfasts in Cape Town - worth a read if you're looking for somewhere to eat!
